If it previously worked and you did not change anything then it's usually a web host related issue.
Although it can also be a firewall that is blocking the connection.

I've already tried to publish without the firewall so it can't be that. I'll contact the provider 1and1 to see if they can solve the issue.

Hi Janet,

I am publishing at 1&1 as well and dont have any trouble.
Do you only publish files generated by QnEWB or do you try to publish foreign files with strange filenames or linked external files?

Michael

Hi Michael,
Thanks for your concern. I don't think I'm using any unusual files. A few jpegs, a few mp3's, a few links to external websites, all generated via Quick and Easy. I can upload the files using a Stand-alone Ftp programme (Cyberduck) from a local publish folder. This makes me think there is something wrong with Quick & Easy's ftp system. If it was a problem with1and1 I wouldn't be able to use Cyberduck. What do you think?

Hi Janet,

check your file extensions are okay ... hope you did NOT use .jpeg pictures but .jpg ;-)
Whatever....if you CAN upload with external FTP but not with QnEWB most logically I would suggest to compare the FTP settings.
But from your message I conclude, you did not change them...
I am using always QnEWB for uploading and external FTP for other operations.
And it is really working for me.

What happens if you do a Publish-Explore-Connect in QnEWB? Does that work for you?
Can you identify WHICH file would be transferred after "Faceboog.jpg"?

regards
Michael

Is it possible that your host no longer supports standard FTP?
I received another report about 1&1 where the user was told that 1&1 no longer support standards FTP (they have switch to SFTP).

With 1&1 you CAN actually use SFTP.... I am still using FTP and it works.

Janet: Please contact your host as Pablo suggested. They use to answer very fast!

Thank you everyone,
I have contacted 1and1 and they think it is to do with the change from FTP to SFTP. They said they sent me an email about the change but I can't find one. I can't connect to the server using the setting they have provided. With my original settings I can connect to the server but can't upload the files.
I have found a workaround by publishing the files locally then uploading them using Cyberduck (FTP programme). It works but its inconvenient.

Does the new version 4 of Quick and Easy support SFTP?

Hi Janet,

no, sorry, QnEWB still cannot publish SFTP.

Thanks for the info, so I will watch out for that change as well.... still FTP is working for me to 1&1 (yesterday ;-)

Update to above conversation.
I am still in a dilemma about all this. Sometime between 17/6/16 and 1/7/16 something changed. Either the publishing part of Q&E WB failed or 1and1's servers stopped accepting the files. The odd thing is that I can upload files to 1and1's servers from a locally published file using 'Cyberduck' FTP client, with either FTP or SFTP. This makes me think that it is Q&EWB software that has failed. What do you all think?
I am a completely self taught web person with limited understanding, trying to run 2 websites for charities and this issue has caused me a lot of anguish.

Version 2 has not been updated for over a year, so it still works the same as before. Nothing has chnaged to the way FTP works.
However SFTP is a completely different file transfer protocol. It is currently not support by the software ,because it requires third party licensing.

Maybe you website space is full?
Do you get the same message each time you try to publish?

Janet:
Can you access your site via QnEWB WITHOUT publishing?
As I asked before:
What happens if you do a Publish-Explore-Connect in QnEWB? Does that work for you?

Hi,
When I use my original FTP settings I can do publish-explore-connect and see my files on the server most of the time but sometimes Q&EWB freezes and I have to force a quit. When I try to publish them in the normal way I either get the error message I mentioned in previous posts, or Q&EWB freezes, I get the eternally spinning wheel and I have to force a quit.
I haven't tried to upload files using the publish-explore-connect method, but when I tried to delete an obsolete file I could not.
When I go on 1and1 webspace explorer and SFTP account info I am nowhere near using all the allowed space.
Does this clarify my problem.

I also have another problem with the software:
When I do a local publish then click on 'Visit the published website' I get the following error message:

Failed to open URL "file:///Users/davidandjanet/Library/Containers/com.pablosoftwaresolutions.quickandeasywebbuilder2/data/Users/davidandjanet/Documents/Seedfield Website/Local Publish/index.html" in default browser. (error 0: Undefined error: 0)

Again, this has only happened in the last couple of weeks. Everything was Ok before the above mentioned dates. I have no idea if my problems are connected with each other.
