“Site Search” feature results page problem.

Post by AlanD » Sun Mar 19, 2017 10:30 pm

I am having problems with the “Site Search” feature.

I have followed the steps in the Manual ver4 pdf .
I have no problems with the sitemap and the search index. All that went well and it indexes all the pages correctly.

My problem is getting the list of results to show up consistently.
I have done Step 1 and 2 in several variations and my results pop up in a window that says:
about:blank

I actually don’t mind that result.
However, if you click on a link in that result, it will take you to the correct web page, but when you search from that resulting page you get the
about:blank but it has no results unless you then hit the back button.

Here is the live website:

To test it use the word benny which will yield good results on the about:blank page.
Click on any result and search from there.
You will get another about:blank page with no results. But then hit the browser back button and the new results will show from your second search term.

I am working with the Mac version Quick 'n Easy 4.1.2
on Safari Version 10.0.3

Thank you for any suggestions.

I'm not sure of the cause but I can confirm the symptoms.

The first search result works fine but further searches from the target page are empty.

Viewing in Firefox/Linux.

Unfortunately there is no way to work around this. You cannot open another popup window from a popup window. This is blocked by the browser.
You will need to select another target for the search results, for example inside a inline frame.

Thanks for your reply.

The results page is already an inline frame.
I followed the steps in the Help document.

Step 1 - Add a new page to the project (for example 'search_results'). - DID THAT
Add an inline frame to the new page. This is where the results will be displayed. - DID THAT
Add a 'Site Search' object. - (CAN YOU DEFINE WHAT THAT IS?- i assumed it is just the ‘Search Box”?)

Select 'Show results in an Inline Frame’ DID THAT
Note that now you will also be able to search on the result page. Important: make sure that the Inline frame displays an initial page. Some browsers will not display the page if there is no content in the inline frame.
For example: you can create a new internal page that displays some text like 'This area will display the search results’. DID THAT
Then set that page in the 'Link to' property of the Inline frame, so that page will initially be displayed. DID THAT
Step 2 - Go back to the page you were working on. -
Add a 'Site Search' object. - (CAN YOU DEFINE WHAT THAT IS?- i assumed it is just the ‘Search Box”?)
Select 'Show results in another page' - DID THAT
Click the 'Settings' and select the 'search_results' page. DID THAT

When all the steps are followed, I end up with a Search Box on my Master page and a Search Box in the “Search Results page” Is that correct?

I must be missing a step somewhere in this process. But I have spent several days trying every configuration I can think of and reading the manual step by step.

I'm sorry but I really have no control over this. This is a browser limitation.
It is not possible to trigger a popup from another popup.

However when I look at your results page then it does not look like you are using a inline frame.
I need to see your project to be able to tell you exactly what is wrong with your setup.
